Lipat: A simple care instruction
July 15th 2021
A lightweight and easy-care fabric to care for, plisse or in Indonesia better known as plisket, has a distinctive appearance which is characterized by its fold. This fabric material is similar to seersucker, but not as long-lasting. Special care is needed for caring clothes made of plisse so that the wrinkles are maintained and durable prettily.
Here is tips to maintain your plisse clothing!
1. Washing Tips
Caring for this fabric is uncomplicated, but it takes perseverance to maintain its appearance. Wash your clothes in cold water mixed with liquid detergent. Do it by dipping clothes in water. If there are stains, treat them immediately by gently rubbing the clothes with a clean white cloth using a stain-removing detergent. Avoid using the washing machine as agitation can weaken the fabric.
2. Drying Tips
A washing machine dryer isn’t a good method for drying plisse or plisket -- as it can cause shrinkage and loss of the fabric folds. It's a good idea to squeeze the fabric gently by hand to remove excess water, but avoid wringing and twisting, which can damage the fibers. Dry in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight.
3. Maintaining the Folds Tips
Piisse or plisket has a natural creased appearance. To maintain the appearance of the crease, use a steam iron. Limit ironing to the edges or seams of the garment, as ironing can flatten the fabric and impair the quality of the folds. Also, use low temperatures to avoid damaging the fabric. Avoid drying too long, because it will change the texture of the fabric.
4. Storing Tips
To maintain the shape of the fold, store clothes using hangers and avoid folding techniques. Hang-clothes neatly in your closet.
